Overview

CampusCast is a full-stack digital signage platform that lets admins and clients manage announcements, events and media, and pushes them live to TV displays across a building's corridors. The frontend polls for updates and retries failed requests with exponential backoff, so a dropped connection never breaks the display. The backend runs on a five-service Docker stack (Postgres, Redis, Django, Celery and Celery Beat) for reliable async processing, deployed with the backend on Railway and the frontend on Vercel.

Key Features

  • Resilient live updates: failed requests are retried automatically with exponential backoff, so a network drop doesn't interrupt what's showing on the display
  • Secure authentication: email-verified sign-up, forgot/reset password, JWT auth with the refresh token kept in an httpOnly, SameSite cookie, and a custom email-based user model restricted to a single admin
  • Rate-limited by design: login, registration and password-reset endpoints are rate-limited per IP address against brute-force attempts
  • Production-grade infrastructure: a five-service Docker Compose stack (Postgres, Redis, Django, Celery worker, Celery Beat) with health checks and dependency-ordered startup, served by Gunicorn and WhiteNoise
  • A dedicated marketing landing page with animated sections, separate from the admin and display apps
